His work has been exhibited in Milan, London, New York, and Dallas. Derek has also exhibited in Toronto at the Interior Design Show, as part of Heavy Metal, Tools, Associates, Shiny Pretty Things and Light It Up installations; Material Explorations at Harbourfront; Hand & Machine at Ontario Crafts Council Gallery and other group shows.
Derek has participated as a critic and lecturer at furniture critiques at the University of Toronto, Ontario College of Art and Design University (OCAD U) and Sheridan College. He has also taught furniture design at OCAD U, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Design in 2004, in the Industrial Design department.
