April 16, 2024 (Toronto) – Announced today, Keilhauer has been recognized as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for the tenth year in a row by the Canada’s Top 100 Employers project. This prestigious competition acknowledges employers that are leading the country in creating a culture of environmental awareness in their organizations and have developed and implemented exceptional sustainability initiatives.
“For over 40 years, Keilhauer has been an industry pioneer when it comes to the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle and renew,” says Meghan Sherwin, President of Keilhauer. “We are honoured to be celebrating ten consecutive years on this incredible list of Canadian companies that are leading the way to create a greener future for our country.”
To curate this important list, each employer is evaluated by the esteemed editors of Canada’s Top 100 Employers in terms of 1) the unique environmental initiatives and programs they have developed; 2) the extent to which they have been successful in reducing the organization’s own environmental footprint; 3) the degree to which their employees are involved in these programs and whether they contribute any unique skills; and 4) the extent to which these initiatives have become linked to the company’s public identity, attracting new employees and clients to the organization.
Some accomplishments that earned Keilhauer the title of one of Canada’s Greenest Employers in 2024 include:

  • Launched the world’s first two carbon neutral ottomans, Vagabond (designed by celebrated Canadian designer Andrew Jones) and Dally (designed by Keilhauer’s in-house design team)
  • Launched Nova, a sustainable, zero-waste textile made from 33% recycled yarn. All textile waste produced from manufacturing Nova is converted into new yarn that is reused for the backings of other textiles
  • Keilhauer President Meghan Sherwin selected to participate in the United Nations Partnership Council on Circularity and Sustainability in Interiors. Out of the 30 participants, Sherwin was the sole representation for the commercial furniture industry
  • Continued the company’s commitment to Environmental, Societal and Governance Transparency through the publication of the annual Keilhauer Corporate Sustainability Report
  • Maintained the company’s blanket-wrapping program, which ships new products to customers in protective, reusable blankets instead of cardboard boxes. During the 2023 fiscal year, approximately 80% of Keilhauer product orders were wrapped for shipping in these sustainable, eco-conscious blankets, saving an estimated 208,000 lbs. of cardboard from being used
  • Supported the Scarborough Centre for Healthy Communities through a company-wide holiday food drive, donating essential non-perishable food items that provided over 100 meals
  • Ongoing programs in place to track resource and energy use, including water, air (addressing greenhouse gas emissions and indoor air quality), energy and waste management
