April 23, 2024 (Toronto) – As part of Keilhauer’s annual recognition of Earth Day, the North American furniture manufacturer has published their 2024 Corporate Sustainability Report (CSR). In an effort to increase and maintain transparency with their customers and community, the 2024 report shares information regarding Keilhauer’s facilities, corporate culture, and the stories behind some of the company’s sustainability milestones over the past year.

“The 2024 Corporate Sustainability Report is a testament to Keilhauer’s unwavering continued commitment to sustainability, responsible manufacturing practices, and community engagement,” says Meghan Sherwin, President of Keilhauer. “At Keilhauer, our ethos of Design That Sustains is a journey that we embark on daily, and we hope that our latest CSR inspires others in the A&D industry and beyond to join us in shaping a brighter, greener future.”

One of the topics covered in the new report is Keilhauer’s continued investment in introducing carbon neutral products to the contract furniture market. In spring 2023, Keilhauer launched Vagabond and Dally, the world’s first two certified carbon neutral ottomans. To achieve this carbon neutral status, Keilhauer reduced carbon emissions at every stage of the design processes of each ottoman – from the designs and the materials used in production, to the distribution system and the products’ end-of-life. Any remaining carbon is offset through investing in third-party verified carbon reducing projects such as the Francis Biedler Improved Forest Management Project.

Another highlight of the 2024 CSR is President Meghan Sherwin’s participation in the United Nations Partnership Council on Circularity and Sustainability in Interiors, which took place in New York City in November 2023. Sherwin was one of 30 people invited by the UN to represent various design industries, to exchange insights and information about how they are addressing the climate crisis and charting the path of carbon reduction in their industries. Keilhauer was the sole representative of the contract furniture industry at this Partnership Council, which was and continues to be a great honor.

The report also covers the company’s sustainable North American facilities, where all Keilhauer products are manufactured. Keilhauer has completely eliminated the use of water in all production, and the company has a rigorous waste reduction plan that includes 17 waste diversion streams, including the recycling of office supplies and electronics. These efforts have resulted in an 84.5% waste diversion rate between 2022 and 2023. Keilhauer also annually commits to energy and carbon reduction initiatives to eliminate carbon emissions from the company’s direct operations.
